Quartet jailed 30 years for theft

The suspects, identified as Tarisai Danha, 35, Benard Phiri, 29, both of Harben Park in Gweru, and Tinashe Gonde, 41, of Ascot Infill, are alleged to have been involved in a string of crimes targeting homes, shops and vehicles in suburbs including Mtapa, Mambo, Mkoba, Ascot and Southdowns.

FOUR men were each sentenced to 30 years imprisonment after Mutoko magistrate Caroline Matanga convicted them of stealing armored cables. In a statement yesterday, Criminal Investigations Department (CID) spokesperson Rachel Muteweri said the quartet conspired to steal copper windings from two transformers in Mutoko. They damaged the transformers before stealing 6 meters of armored cables….
